The creation of the brilliant holds significance, a special meaning or use, to the people who are attracted to it. Maybe it fulfills a need or solves a problem, or teaches you something new.
And what is the difference between someone who connects things that are not new, but are still relevant to people, and people who connect something that is original? That is where the brilliance lies.

But how can you become a connector?
As far as my experience goes, a connector is someone who continuously experiments with their ideas, and is very organized.
This means that a connector has a system of collecting or generating ideas and then organizing and implementing them. Not only that, they are organized people in general.
Successful connectors do not have to do this alone because part of their successful system can and should include several other people who can help ideas move forward into actualization.
At their core, brilliant connectors are individuals who are deeply curious and open-minded. They are always seeking out new information and perspectives, and are willing to challenge their own assumptions and beliefs in the pursuit of truth. They are also highly creative, and able to generate and combine ideas in novel and unexpected ways.
But being a brilliant connector isn't just about having good ideas yourself. It's also about being able to recognize the value in the ideas of others and to connect those ideas with other people and resources that can help bring them to life. Brilliant connectors are skilled networkers, able to build relationships with a wide variety of people and organizations and to identify the key players and influencers in any given field.
When moving your ideas forward as a connector, you need people to be able to back you up.
Without support, ideas that brilliant connectors create will fall flat.

In the education field, there is a great need for connectors. I know this personally because I have been a teacher for the past 12 years and the education system is largely static. Although there has been an attempt to get away from the traditional education system, educators who are connectors are still struggling to be innovative in a way that will help students to also learn the skills of being a connector.
When school systems force teachers and students to follow a stringent curriculum that is separated by subject, this is when you fear for the future of humanity. You cannot have a bunch of people in the workforce who are unable to form sentences in a coherent strain of thought or think critically because the school system has not supported them to develop efficient skills to do so.
How can we cultivate the qualities of a brilliant connector of ideas?
While some individuals may have a natural talent for connecting ideas and people, the skills and qualities of a brilliant connector can also be developed through practice and intention. Some strategies for cultivating these qualities include:
Developing a deep curiosity and interest in a wide range of topics
Building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines
Actively seeking out opportunities for collaboration and synthesis of ideas
Being willing to challenge one's own assumptions and beliefs
Being open to feedback and constructive criticism
Being able to communicate effectively and persuasively
Being able to organize a system where ideas are easily accessible (use a note-taking system to keep track of your ideas)
Actively experimenting and reflecting on your experiences
